ESCAPING NEW YORK

After living in the great state of New York for twelve wonderfully shmutzy, irritating, expensive — but enlightening — years, we were faced with an opportunity, which would take us out of our comfort zone and into the great unknown. My husband was offered a job in Raleigh, North Carolina — a job he really couldn’t refuse — and we decided to follow our hearts and take our family on an adventure.

The reason why I write this blog is because no one had written it before me. When we started exploring the idea of leaving New York, there were no resources to help ease the anxiety I was feeling. Google searches turned up nothing. I felt like a true pioneer — I mean, how could no one have documented the experience of leaving the greatest city in the world and starting over somewhere else — leaving friends, family, comforts and more behind? So I decided to do something about it, and document my experiences shedding my New York skin and becoming a Southerner.

This is the story of how one family escaped New York. The story of how we escaped living in the most expensive place in the country, with all its access and excess, to a city in the South ranked among the best places to live and raise a family. Life 2.0, if you will.

Herein lies the good, the bad and the ugly — c’est la vie. Have questions? Want recos? Reach out, at ogradysarah(at)gmail(dot)com.
