In parenting, don’t make promises you can’t keep.

Like tonight. We were in the car headed from daycare to meet the mister for dinner and Jack was throwing an epic tantrum from his carseat. I couldn’t even hear myself think, so I finally turned around and said to him, “If you don’t settle down right this instant, you are going to go straight to your room. Do you want to go to your room???”

What did he do? He said yes — yes, he would like to go to his room.

Lesson learned: Never make threats you can’t follow through on. It makes you look weak. (Yup, even to a two-year old. He spent the next hour smirking at me over his kabab, whispering “pretty little liar…”)

Parenting fail.
